The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is pursuing former Mandera South Member of Parliament Adan Haji Ali over a Ksh51 million graft case.

Adan is reportedly on the run after receiving reports that the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court has ordered his arrest.

The MP is being pursued to appear before the court to answer corruption charges which have been levelled against him.

Adan served as Mandera South MP in the last Parliament having been elected under the Jubilee Party ticket.

While he served as Mandera South MP, the politician is being pursued for graft cases levelled against him during his tenure as an employee of the Kwale County Government.

“The former MP is wanted by EACC for arraignment over corrupt dealings involving Ksh51 million that he executed at the County Government of Kwale when he served as the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Tourism between 2013 and 2017,” it was reported.

At the time, Adan served under Governor Salim Mvurya who is now the Mining Cabinet Secretary.

Investigations have indicated that he did not disclose his private interest to the employer during the tendering and award process, thus engaging in a conflict of interest contrary to the law.

Adan is believed to have used one of his hotel facilities to trade with the County Government of Kwale.

The illegality happened after the former MP allegedly used his position to exaggerate costs while providing accommodation and conference services for the county government.

“The suspect is believed to have gone into hiding after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in December 2023 concurred with recommendations of EACC to apprehend and charge him under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003,” Kenyans were appraised of the investigations.

Already a nationwide manhunt has been launched and a charge sheet has already been prepared.

The former parliamentarian has also been given the option to surrender to the Mombasa-based court before February 13, 2024.
