The National Government through the Ministry of Labour on Wednesday, February 7, issued an ultimatum to 100,000 Inua Jamii beneficiaries to register for mobile money services.

In a statement, the Ministry noted that the January payment disbursed on February 7, was the last batch to be paid through the bank

This follows a presidential directive to have all the Inua Jamii Beneficiaries receive their monthly stipends through mobile money.

“So far 207,000 beneficiaries have enrolled for the Mpesa payment and have received their December payment through Mpesa,” the Florence Bore-led Ministry stated.

“However, we note that there are around 100,000 beneficiaries who have not enrolled.”

Caregivers who had not enrolled their beneficiaries on the program were asked to dial *222# on their mobile phones and follow the prompts.

Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) and Persons with Severe Disabilities (PWSD) caregivers were told that the registration was mandatory.

President William Ruto’s administration has been paying promptly the monthly stipends which target CT-OVC and PWSD as one of his campaign promises to deal with the delays that had characterised the program.

The program also targets senior citizens and vulnerable households in select counties.

The vulnerable households receive their stipend under the  Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) initiative which is a complimentary program for Inua Jamii.

For the month of January, the government disbursed a total of Ksh2 billion to cater for the Inua Jamii beneficiaries.

A further Ksh6 million was disbursed for the NICHE program.
