Wiper Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday vowed that his law firm would file a lawsuit against the Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Davis Chirchir alongside two other government officials over the Embakasi gas explosion.
Principal Secretary Alex Wachira of the State Department of Energy and his counterpart from the State Department of Environment & Climate Change are also set to be included in the imminent lawsuit.
According to Kalonzo, the leaders should be the ones held most accountable for the incident which cost six people their lives and left scores injured.
“My law firm can go on record along with others and we are clear we may have to sue the following, Permanent Secretary for the Environment, Cabinet Secretary Energy and the PS for Energy who is in charge of EPRA,” explained the former Vice President.
In his speech, he also urged the government to compensate the victims in a timely manner.
He noted that the victims should each be compensated Ksh 500,000 or more citing that they sustained fatal injuries during the explosion.
Kalonzo also requested his fellow lawyers to support him in the quest for justice for the victims.
He was speaking while in the company of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, who has been pushing the government to compensate the victims fairly.
Currently, four individuals have been arrested in relation to the incident among them being the owner of the gas plant in Mradi Village.
The four who were arraigned in court, are being held in custody for the next 21 days to allow more investigations into the case to be conducted.
According to the Police, they are currently contemplating preferring murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, negligence, causing harm and abuse of office charges against the four suspects.
However, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy is yet to comment on the matter despite several leaders lobbying for his arrest.
