A section of motorists expressed frustrations after failing to secure government vehicles over the bidding prices during an auction held on Wednesday, February 7.

In a video shared by Pamurick Show, the motorists flocked to the yard in Nairobi to purchase the vehicles of their interest but were, however, perturbed after noticing a pattern in the conduct of the auctioning process.

The concerned drivers raised doubts about the bidding process, with some suggesting that the value was inflated by up to 20 times the usual amount.

For instance, a Toyota Prado that was reserved for Ksh500,000 in the first lot was auctioned for Ksh10 million despite having mechanical issues.

Another Prado TX that was reserved for people with disabilities at a price tag of Ksh830,000, was eventually sold for Ksh8 million.

Suspecting that the auctioneer may be playing politics, the attendees ordered the bidders to instantly pay the amount to prove credibility.

"I wasted my time to get here. We won't allow the auction to continue until the process becomes fair," some complained while arguing that the process should be repeated.

"I am the auctioneer, if he pays is there a problem?" he responded.

"Let them pay now," the crowd demanded suspecting that it was a plot to hoodwink them. The auctioneer, however, explained that the bidder has a three-hour window to pay 25 per cent upfront.

A Toyota Prado, priced at Ksh830,000 was also auctioned for Ksh3.6 million while a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin that was reserved for the youth was auctioned for Ksh2.6 million.

The crowd suspected that a specific group was used as proxies to bid for the vehicles at exorbitant prices.

They called for the inclusion of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) representatives to man the auctioning process.
