A British woman has been killed alongside her friend in a tragically fatal accident a few hours after arriving for a holiday in Kenya.
The two died on the spot, following a road crash between the car they were travelling in and a lorry on February 9, along the Naivasha - Nakuru highway.
"The British national who was visiting the country and one male died on the spot while their driver was seriously injured and was admitted to the sub-county hospital, " Stephen Kirui, Naivasha Police officer commented.
Initial investigations indicated that the woman was picked up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following her arrival, as the two headed towards Nakuru in the morning.
However, on nearing Naivasha, the car they were travelling in, swerved from its lane causing a collision with a lorry headed towards Nairobi.
The impact left the two foreigners dead on the spot whereas the lorry driver was rushed to Naivasha sub-county hospital in critical condition.
And as fortune would have it, the lorry's co-driver survived the ordeal unharmed.
Police transported the two bodies to the Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
Their damaged car was towed to the police station as a further inquiry into the incident was launched.
The British woman's family is yet to be notified as her body awaits being lifted back to her home country.
On January 29, 11 passengers died on the spot in a fatal road accident as others sustained injuries along the Nairobi - Kisumu highway after the bus they were travelling in collided with a lorry.
Five others died while receiving treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital bringing the total death toll to 17.
