Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome on February 9, fired two Nairobi county officials and successfully reclaimed part of Thika Cemetery land.

In a statement, CS Wahome noted that it had come to her attention that a section of land that the private investors had begun making investments on was owned by the state.

After carrying out investigations, the Ministry concluded that one of the fired officers had helped a private investor gain ownership of the parcel while the other gave out misleading information in court to help another private investor secure ownership of another cemetery parcel.

"We have an officer in the Nairobi land office who I have fired for aiding in the grabbing of land," CS Wahome declared.

"Another one gave false information to aid in the grabbing of land. This will not be tolerated under my watch," she added.

Accompanied by Land Principal Secretary Nixon Korir, CS Wahome also halted all development activities that were ongoing at the cemetery.

She also noted that wayward officers caught embezzling state resources would not only be fired but would also face full prosecution.

Last month, CS Wahome issued a warning to officials attempting to forge title deeds to gain ownership of public land.

Over 3000 residents in Gikumari, who were facing eviction, were rescued by the CS from a private investor who took control of the land.

CS Wahome noted that an unknown individual had invoked the names of high-ranking government officials and forged a title deed that read LR No 5180/1, a land parcel situated in Nanyuki, Nyeri County.

She also noted that the bank overdraft as per the document indicated a charge to Dubai Bank worth a Ksh12 million on December 11, 1997 however, Dubai Bank entered the Kenyan market in 2000.

Wahome also recalled all the police officers who had guarded the fraudsters in their construction missions.

"I will ask my colleague Kindiki to find out who is taking our police officers to do the wrong work. We are not doing any housing project there and there's no government project that's being undertaken there," CS Wahome stated.
