Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday disclosed that the government would no longer allow the transfer of police officers found culpable of misconduct.

While addressing mourners attending the funeral of over 13 people who were killed by illicit brew in Kirinyaga, Gachagua stated that President William Ruto believes that rogue cops should face immediate interdictions instead.

Gachagua likened transferring a rogue officer from one county to another to shifting a problem from one place to another.

“I want to announce that we have agreed with the President that as an administration, no single police officer who is unable to deliver on his role will be transferred, because that is transferring a problem, and yet all these counties are part of Kenya,” Gachagua announced.

Gachagua also disclosed the government had placed stringent measures to deal with cops found guilty of colluding with traders selling illicit alcohol to unsuspecting Kenyans.

He reiterated that no police officer, regardless of their rank, would be spared in the latest government crackdown.

“For instance, you are here in Kirinyaga and you have taken bribes and people have died, we can not take you to Kiambu County, because you will do the same thing there," the DP stated.

"So all officers who are here, I want to announce to you, that nobody will be transferred, If you are unable to deliver, you go home. And we won't relent on this,” he added.

The DP also raised concerns over some officers running bars. He noted that such officers were faced with a conflict of interest given the recent efforts to deal with drug addiction and illicit brew.

Therefore, he revealed that the officers only had two options. To resign from the service or choose their business.

"And I want to ask members of the National Assembly and the MCAs, please submit to my office all bars that are run by officers and their names so that we take action," Gachagua directed.

On the other hand, the DP urged the Judiciary to help in dealing with the menace and halt giving conservatory orders for cases involving the sale of illicit alcohol.
