Kenya Kwanza leaders are set to attend their annual retreat at The Lake Naivasha Resort, Nakuru County beginning Sunday.

The retreat is expected to have separate sessions with one being with the President and parliamentarians on February 19 while the other will be a session between the Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries on February 20 and 21.

Details have revealed that the leaders are bound to discuss Raila Odinga's African Union (AU) candidature as one of the key agendas.

This is a follow-up on the Azimio leader, Raila Odinga’ declaring his interest in the African Union Chairperson seat.

The Azimio leader’s announcement has created a difference in opinion within the Kenya Kwanza administration with some members backing his candidature while others have opposed it.

According to some leaders, backing Raila's candidature will reduce the opposition leader's involvement in the Kenyan political scene,  a possibility Raila has dismissed

A second agenda which will be accorded priority within the retreat will be the recommendations of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) Report.

The NADCO report made recommendations on the need to adjust the cost of living, an audit of the 2022 electoral process, and a restructure of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Additionally, it was revealed that the president aimed to use the platform to drum up support for the Affordable Housing Levy once a vote is cast in Parliament.

The session is also expected to provide a platform for MPs and CSs to reconcile their differences seeing that some have engaged in public spats in the past.

However, in a dispatch issued on Wednesday, the cabinet stated that the retreat would evaluate their performance for all the ministries.

“The retreat is expected to review the performance of all Ministries and State Offices and map out the priorities for the year 2024 that will be codified in the Ministerial Performance Contracts”.

This is the second retreat that the Kenya Kwanza will be hosting, with this first retreat of the year expected to set the tone of the year for the administration.
