A British national is appealing to Kenyans for help in recovering her identity documents, namely a passport and a driver's license which were stolen from her car in Nairobi.

While narrating how the incident unfolded, a friend to the lady stated that the documents were in a bag which was pulled out of a car parked outside a city restaurant.

According to the narration, the lady in the company of a group of four friends visited a popular city joint for an evening meal where they were directed to park outside the establishment.

However, it was unclear to the group why they were instructed to park on the adjacent street despite the availability of ample space within the restaurant’s parking lot.

Eventually, the group complied with the security guard’s request but later found the lock of their car having been tampered with and the lady’s bag stolen.

“The British national found her bag missing, containing her passport, driving licence, iPhone 8+, and over Ksh115,000 (650 Great British Pounds), among other personal items. Additionally, her companion had items stolen from the car as well”, explained the acquaintance.

Reports of the incident further indicate that the restaurant did not have CCTV cameras to assist the police in nabbing the culprits.

Additional reports from the Spring Valley Police Station where the case was reported also revealed that this was not an isolated incident as a similar case had been reported at the station from another guest at the restaurant.

Preliminary investigations conducted by police into the case also show that the guard who directed the group to park at the specified spot lacks identification documents.

“Days after the regrettable incident, Spring Valley Police would confirm that the security guard in their custody was an undocumented foreigner from the neighbouring country who did not even have an identity card,” read the narration in part.

However, the individuals have also alleged that the restaurant denied the incident and failed to follow up on the matter with the police station.

The allegations come at a time when there have been increased claims of insecurity in the city, with Nairobi being ranked 9th in a list of African capitals with the highest crime rates.
