The wife of Jayesh Kumar Kanji, an Indian businessman whose body was found dipped in acid in Machakos County after being killed, has confessed to seeking the help of his friend to discipline him.

In a confession to the police after her arrest on Wednesday, the wife revealed that she intended to torture and scare the husband, with no intention of killing him.

Her decision to want her husband disciplined emanated from domestic differences at home, with detectives yet to ascertain what led to their altercation.

According to the police, the arrest of the wife was informed by data analysis of data records recovered from the suspects' phones. Police established that the wife was in communication with the friend of the businessman before the incident.

It was further believed that they hired locals to mete out the punishment after they agreed on his kidnapping.

“She is alleged to have been involved in the murder plot after phone analysis revealed that she was in contact with one of the four suspects who were arrested and arraigned at Kibera Law Courts on February 19."

“She is reported to have asked the suspect to help discipline and torture her husband as the two had disagreements. The other suspect agreed and recruited others to execute the plan.” Kibera Law Courts Magistrate Magistrate Irene Kahuya stated during the arraignment of the businessman's wife.

According to police, the friend was tasked with driving the deceased to the crime scene on Valentine's Day. The businessman was later attacked by blunt objects before the suspects poured acid on his body to hide evidence.

However, they forgot the weapons they used to beat up the businessman at the crime scene, leading to their arrest.

Meanwhile, the wife is being held in custody to help investigators unravel the motive behind the husband's murder. She will be detained by police for 14 days following an application that was filed at the Kibera Law Courts.

Police plan to use the 14 days to conduct DNA tests on the crime scene and carry out further analysis of the phone records.
