A local report providing insight into the incident has confirmed that the police have been alerted and are presently responding to the scene. Meanwhile, good Samaritans are offering basic first aid to the casualties.

Motorists travelling on the road are advised to exercise caution due to a traffic snarl caused by the increasing crowd at the scene, resulting in congestion along the major highway.

In another accident on February 24, several pupils died while others sustained major injuries after their school bus overturned near the Mathioya area in Murang'a.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the students were coming from a scouts' festival in Nyeri, when the driver lost control, veering the bus into a ditch.

Kenyans on Monday condemned a transport company, accused of notoriously driving their PSVs on their various routes.

This was after eight people died in a grisly road accident along the Kitui-Nairobi road, where a bus veered off the road and landed in a ditch.

Photos circulating online showed the damaged bus with seats scattered on the road, as law enforcement officers waited for a tow truck to help lift the vehicle and rescue those trapped underneath.
