The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday lauded a Samburu Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Andrew Nyabicha who rejected a Ksh80,000 bribe offered to him by three individuals.

In the well-organised scheme involving the driver of the OCS, the trio attempted to lure the senior officer with the money while seeking the release of a suspect who robbed three foreign nationals he had smuggled into the country.

Instead of taking the bribe, Nyabicha took the initiative and reported the matter to EACC officers who quickly responded to the matter.

While commenting on the matter, EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi lauded Nyabicha for his ethical stance in the fight against corruption.

Ngumbi further acknowledged the significance of such actions in safeguarding national security and upholding the rule of law.

"This is what EACC expects of all Police Commanders across the country to weed out corruption from police operations, which has the effect of compromising security and access to justice," the EACC spokesperson commented.

Meanwhile, the suspect whom the three wanted to be released had been apprehended for robbing and trafficking three Ethiopian nationals.

The suspect was found in possession of stolen items alongside forged documents which exposed his criminal activities.

In a similar incident in November last year, a police officer received praise from the anti-graft commission after she turned down a Ksh1.7 million bribe offer.

The trio were accused of attempting to bribe a police officer to influence her investigations into fraudulent deals at the Port of Mombasa.

While lauding the officer, EACC stated that such was expected of all public officers when they face ethical dilemmas.

EACC went ahead to arrest the suspects who were later arraigned at the Mombasa law courts over bribery allegations.
