Raging Fire Leaves 3 Dead in South B Nairobi
Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has condoled with the family of former Nairobi County MCA Doris Ngoyo, after a tragic fire claimed lives on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at South B.
In a statement released by Sonko, Ngoyo lost her sister in the fire incident, who was in the house with her daughter and their househelp.
“To you, Hon. Doris, my prayers are with you and your entire family during this mourning period. May the Almighty Father rest the deceased souls in eternal peace,” Sonko stated.
Ngoyo, who alleged foul play, explained that the circumstances leading to the fire were bizarre, as the fire was contained in the house which is within the South B shopping centre.
“There are very many questions without answers surrounding what happened to Jackie and her child. The lights were on, and the gas was intact,” she stated.
The former MCA further revealed that the sister has left behind a son, who was at a sleepover at a relative's house when the fire erupted.
While visiting the scene of the incident, Sonko accessed the area, promising to help with investigations to ascertain what led to the fire. He further donated Ksh30,000 to help with organising the send-off.
“We tried to remove the door which was too hot because it's metallic, to save them but we couldn’t. They kept calling and screaming from the inside, and there was nothing we could do,” a neighbour explained.
“The fire was too much to be contained, however, it likely did not spread to the other houses. The firefighters came in when it was too late.”
The three, who were burned beyond recognition, were later transferred to the Kenyatta University (KU) hospital mortuary.
This comes after several stalls were reduced to ashes at the Uthiru 87 market on Friday after a fire mysteriously broke out leaving several traders counting losses.
In the 10 pm incident, no casualties or injuries were reported. Investigations into the mysterious fire have since been launched to establish the root cause.
