The Public Service Commission (PSC) on Tuesday, March 5, released a list of Kenya’s best-performing public institutions for the Financial Year 2022/2023.
The institutions were ranked according to their compliance in terms of national values and principles of governance as well as values and principles of public service.
In total, 523 public organisations were targetted with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB) appearing among the top 10 performers.
The best-performing institutions
KASNEB was ranked as the best institution, followed by the National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND) in second place, and Kibabii University in third place.
The other institutions included the Capital Market Authority (CMA), Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE), Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAs), Commodities Fund, Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF), and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
These ten public institutions demonstrated exemplary service delivery improvement, high standards of professional ethics, good governance, transparency, and accountability.
Furthermore, KRA and the other institutions were also highly ranked in performance management, equitable allocation of opportunities and resources, as well as engaging the public in making key policies.
Other parameters considered in the ranking included efficiency, effectiveness, economic use of resources, sustainable development, as well as devolution and decentralization of public services.
According to PSC, there are the tenets envisioned in Articles 10 and 232 of the Kenyan Constitution.
Article 10 of the constitution outlines national values and principles of governance which comprise among others patriotism, national unity, sharing and devolution of power, the rule of law, democracy and participation of the people.
On the other hand, article 132 requires public institutions to uphold high standards of professional ethics, and efficient, effective and economic use of resources.
