The University of Embu was on Tuesday, April 11, named the best-performing state corporation, beating the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University.
According to the 18th Cycle Report on Evaluation of Performance for the financial year 2021/22, the institution emerged as the best in the State Corporations category.
Speaking during the release of the report, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi explained that the institutions were gauged on their ability to create an environment that fosters Kenya's transformation process.
"Vision 2030 guides the development of a robust, well-functioning, citizen-focused, and result-oriented public service as a key foundation for economic growth," he stated.
The National Irrigation Authority and the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTTRH) emerged second and third respectively.
This is the second time that the University of Embu emerged as the best in this category as it topped in a similar evaluation by the Ministry of Gender and Public Service for the financial year 2020/2021.
On the flip side, the Commission for University Education was ranked among the worst state corporations. CUE was closely followed by the Council of Legal Education and UoN Enterprises and Services Limited.
The ranking of tertiary institutions listed Karumo Technical Training Institute, Sigalagala National Polytechnic, and Katine Technical Training Institute as the top three.
Kipsinende Technical Training Institute, Kaloleni and Tinderet Technical and Vocational Collages emerged as the least performing.
State House Kenya, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Energy topped other government institutions in the ministries section.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir was among those who were lauded by President William Ruto during the unveiling of the report over their efforts to secure a deal that will enable oil marketers to buy fuel in Kenyan shillings.
On the flip side, the Trade headed by CS Moses Kuria, Transpor (Kipchumba Murkomen), and Information (Eliud Owalo) ministries ranked least in the category.
