Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya on Wednesday revealed that he would be joining the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The move comes after the legislator was dismissed from the Departmental Committee on Regional Development and replaced with Rongo MP Paul Abuor.
According to Salasya, the resolution to include him in the Public Accounts Committee was reached after consultations with Minority Whip, Junet Mohamed.
“Thank you my brother Caleb Amisi for being Kofi Annan and uniting me with Mohamed Junet. It was to smoke but fortunately we agreed that I, Peter Salasya Ezemo will be in the Public Accounts Committee,” the MP stated.
The controversial MP had earlier accused Junet Mohamed of instigating his ouster from the Regional Development Committee.
According to Salasya, he had been replaced from the Regional Development Committee without being consulted.
On March 5, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula announced the replacement of Peter Salasya from the Departmental Committee on Regional Development, a move that was seconded by a majority of the legislators.
“Further to the resolution of the house of Tuesday, October 27, 2022, appointing members into the various committees and according to the provisions of standing order 173, this house further approves the appointment of Paul Abuor MP to replace Peter Kalerwa Salasya MP in the Departmental Committee of Regional Development,” read Moses Wetangula.
Moments before the pronouncement, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah raised alarm over the non-participation of some legislators in their respective committees.
The Majority Leader called for a reevaluation of MPs to determine their participation in their various committees.
"Immediately after the recess, the Selections Committee shall be sitting to reevaluate the performance of members in committees," Ichung'wah stated.
"We are reevaluating your active participation in committees since we are almost mid-term and we evaluate who is keen on their varied committees," he added.
