A female taxi driver found herself on the brink of death after she was held hostage by three armed men along Jogoo Road in Nairobi.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the driver, who wished to remain anonymous, narrated the encounter with the mysterious individuals and the unexpected turn of events at the end of the trip.

What began as a routine pick-up and drop-off took a chilling turn when she received a ride request on Friday afternoon.

Upon contacting the client, she was informed that he was waiting outside Kamukunji Police Station, a detail that struck her as peculiar.

She, however, decided to ignore her intuition and picked up the client and his two friends while heading to Buruburu.

"I always say it's key to listen to your instincts and I don't know why I didn't heed to it.

"Last Friday afternoon, I picked three men outside Kamukunji Police Station. They looked suspicious from the onset but I decided to proceed as they were headed to the Eastlands area along Jogoo Road," she pointed out.

"Moments later, they began talking slang language (shembeteng) that I couldn't comprehend. At one point, I requested to fuel my car at a nearby petrol station to proceed with the journey but they declined."

The female driver looked at the three men, appalled by their answer.

"When I asked the man who was in the passenger's seat their reasons for declining, is when he pointed a gun at me. He also informed me that his friends in the back seat were also carrying weapons and would use them if I didn't cooperate. I felt numb," the motorist pointed out.

The driver was ordered to proceed to their destination along Jogoo Road and she complied. "I was ready to do anything they ordered, if he said I turn left I did because I did not want to find out the consequences," she noted.

Moments later, the victim was ordered to halt in Buruburu as they continued to discuss in their slang language. After a brief deliberation, the man in the passenger seat surprisingly asked the amount for the entire ride and she said Ksh570 in a weak voice.

"During that entire time, I was silent as they kept talking in the slang. As we were almost arriving at the destination, they told me to halt at a certain location and I did. The man in the passenger seat asked me the fee for the entire ride and I informed him it was Ksh570. All of a sudden, they changed their mind in terms of stealing my car and taking away all the valuables inside," she noted.

"They paid the amount and told me that the God I prayed must have heard my prayers. They decided to abandon their plans and said they would target the next victim."

Following the incident, the driver took a few days to recuperate from the trauma. She concluded that she would always heed her intuition in her day-to-day work.
