The family of the late businesswoman Monica Kimani has finally spoken after Justice Grace Nzioka sentenced Joseph "Jowie" Irungu to death after he was found guilty of murdering their kin.

Speaking outside the court on Wednesday, the deceased's brother noted that the family was satisfied with the trial’s outcome, expressing his relief with the culmination of a 6-year long pursuit of justice.

He further noted that the family was working on healing, acceptance moving on with their lives, and finding ways to come to terms with the loss that is still fresh in their hearts.

“With everything that has been going on, it has been very difficult. At some point, we wanted to lose hope but we gathered courage and we are here now,” the brother stated.

“We are satisfied with the judgement and we hope to move forward and find closure.”

The family lawyer Herman Omiti commended Judge Nzioka for the ruling and noted that she gave the reasons that led to her sentence on the convict.

“Sometimes when the case was ongoing one would think it’s leaning to one side or the other, but as we followed the case, we had faith the right decision would be made,” Omiti stated.

Before delivering the sentence, Judge Nzioka highlighted a report analysis, noting how various members of Monicah's family were affected following her death.

The report noted that the deceased's mother suffered prolonged depression and a stroke in the months following her daughter's demise.

“The father is reported to have indicated that the extensive media coverage impeded the emotional healing,” Justice Nzioka added.

Monica’s younger brother, on the other hand, reduced public appearances and secluded himself from the public as a result of the trauma caused.
