Police in Florida are investigating the mysterious death of a Kenyan man, Gabriel Kihiu, whose lifeless body was discovered by law enforcement officers after a report was filed.
According to a police report, the man was identified as a Kenyan who resided in Iowa. At the time, he was visiting Florida when he met his untimely death.
Police in Florida on Tuesday, March 12 contacted the Kenyan Embassy in Washington to help trace the deceased's family.
Police also contacted other Kenyans living in Iowa to help with the search. One of the countrymen however noted that attempts to locate the family had not borne fruit.
A Kenyan who shared the story online noted that other Kenyans who were living in Iowa did not know the deceased or recognise his name.
As the officials continue to look for the deceased's family, Dr Robert Chiuri, the Chairman of One Voice Consortium, an organisation helping others in the diaspora, is mobilising Kenyans living in Iowa to help locate Kihiu's family.
He is believed to be from Gatundu South, Kiambu County. Authorities are seeking the public's help to help locate and notify the family.
Kihiu is among the unfortunate Kenyans who meet their death while travelling, visiting or living abroad.
On February 15, a police officer, Walter Nyamata, was found dead inside a hotel room in the United States while on an official visit.
Another Kenyan was also reported dead in February in Laurel, US. The 41-year-old man crashed into a tree in the morning and lost his life instantly.
Still, in February, a Kenyan was reported dead in Dublin, Ireland a few days after flying out of Kenya.
Kenyan authorities have been urged to put in place measures to protect the lives of Kenyans who leave the country in search of greener pastures.
