A conductor attached to Metro Trans Sacco was on Wednesday, March 20, involved in an altercation with a passenger who allegedly cancelled a transaction after completing fare payment using mobile money.
In a video that has since gone viral, the altercation ensued after the passenger declined to show the conductor the message confirming the payment.
Insisting that he had paid, the passenger informed the conductor to check for the name "Brian" but declined to state the second name.
On his part, the conductor stated that he had not received any message bearing the said name.
The passenger exhibited rude behaviour claiming that the conductor would break his screen if he touched his phone.
"You will not touch my phone. If you feel like taking me to Central Police Station, then do it," the passenger asserted, which led to an altercation as the conductor suspected that he was using clever tactics to avoid paying the Ksh100 fare.
"Where's the message?" probed the conductor.
"All these other passengers have paid and have shown their messages, why is it that you are the only one causing chaos?" the conductor added.
The conductor noticed that the passenger was adamant about showing an earlier message that had shown he had paid but did not want to give access to the phone, suspecting a fishy transaction.
Angered by the rants from the passenger, the conductor held him by his neck, which led to a physical fight between the duo.
Other passengers got involved and assisted the conductor in dragging the passenger towards the door as they sought to have him alight.
"Pay the fare or exit the vehicle. Show the message if you have paid," other passengers shouted as they grew tired of the antics.
"He had paid the amount but connivingly decided to cancel the transaction," the conductor stated.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a manager attached to the Sacco confirmed that the conductor was requested to report to the office on Friday, March 22, to give a detailed briefing of the occurrence.
