Lopha Sacco Clarifies Conductor Throwing Passenger Off Speeding Bus Along Thika Road

Social media was on Sunday morning, March 12 awash with of a passenger who was in a badly hurt along Thika Superhighway. 

Earlier reports claimed that a conductor attached to the Lopha management Sacco pushed a passenger off a speeding bus at the Ruiru bypass. 

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, an official of the Lopha Sacco dispelled rumours that a passenger was involved in the incident.

He affirmed that an argument broke out between the driver and conductor of the bus which led to a fight between the duo.

While detailing the incident, he pointed out that the bus was en route to the Central Business District (CBD) stage on Sunday morning, March 12, before the disagreement ensued between the two. 

Enraged by the outcome, the driver parked the bus and confronted his conductor. According to the personnel, a fight ensued over cash that had been collected.

 

"At Ruiru overpass, they began to fight, which attracted a crowd and the driver reigned blows on the conductor. He is now fine after he was rushed to hospital," he stated. 

The official pointed out that the matter was under investigation before any action can be taken against the staff. 

The matter had caused an uproar on social media as Kenyans castigated the actions allegedly perpetrated by the conductor. Others also criticised the person capturing the incident. 

"Everyone is recording on phone, this guy is losing a lot of blood, what's up with Kenyans? There are many hospitals around the bypass and it was the best place to rush him," a user identified as Mash Romeo stated. 

Others called for reforms across the matatu sector in a bid to restore order. 

"Matatu sector needs thorough reforms and monopoly be contained by introducing government facilitated public transportation modes, trams, bus rapid transport system, metro etc," a user known as Eugene Wangilla noted. 

The reports came amid supremacy battle between various matatu saccos who sought to stamp their authority and prove dominion across the transport sector.
