Buses belonging to City Hoppa, on Friday, March 10, blocked major roads within Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) including Moi Avenue.

The buses paralysed operations along routes used by their counterparts branded 'Super Metro' Buses.

Most of the commuters were forced to alight and walk or seek other means of transport during the weekday rush hour.

This was the second disruption of movement by the buses as the transport battle pitting them against the popular Super Metro continues to escalate.

Other operators involved in the spat included City Shuttle and KBS who protested against the continued takeover of pick-up stages by Super Metro.

Following the commotion in the CBD, motorists, and passengers lamented over the increase in muggings by young men roaming the streets.

In photos and videos shared online, a large group of teenage boys is seen walking up the streets wreaking havoc. Others are seen hopping boda bodas operating on the road.

Kenyans were urged to be cautious as they approach the streets to avoid being ambushed by the group.

On the other hand, according to an official from the Super Metro company who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke on March 2, the standoff was over pick-up points awarded to the operator.

"Super Metro has not been awarded pick-up points that belonged to other fleets and none of the other bus companies was asked to vacate from their stage," he explained.

"The two rival companies are unhappy that we pitched camp in routes that were predominantly theirs," he added.

Super Metro Company began operations in 2013 and has since expanded, introducing more routes across the country and gaining popularity among Kenyans who hailed its professionalism.

In December 2022, the company introduced long-distance travel buses to Western Kenya, Nairobi-Busia-Kampala.
