The father of Victor Kibet, a 23-year-old who was abducted in Juja, Kiambu County broke his silence on Sunday, March 24.

Speaking to the press, Paul Mutai dismissed claims that his son was a tycoon with four luxury vehicles, amid reports that Kibet was living a lavish lifestyle despite not being gainfully employed or having a well-established source of income.

"Those are lies, my son only has one car and I am the one who bought it for him. Whoever is spreading these rumours should be arrested and tell us what they know," Mutai stated.

During the interview, Kibet's father poked holes into the narrative that his son was wealthy stating that was unlikely since the family was using his (Kibet) account to save money for various purposes.

Mutai called upon the public and the press to avoid sharing unverified information adding that it was adding to the family's turmoil.

On the allegations that Kibet was building two homes, Mutai clarified that his son was used to farming and had a piece of land in their rural village.

"I gave him the piece of land, even while in university he used to farm and got a few coins. He used the money to start a business," the father added.

Allegations which have not been substantiated claimed that Kibet was involved in online fraud.

Kibet's father dismissed this claim. He noted that efforts to trace his son have been futile despite visiting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.

Kibet graduated from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) with a Bachelor in Commerce Degree.

The victim is also said to have shared snippets of his luxurious and 'soft' life online, including posting vehicles he allegedly owns.

Police are investigating his abduction which was conducted by individuals posing as police officers at a local entertainment joint on Monday.

Meanwhile, Michael Mwaura the Juja OCPD assured the victim's family that the matter shall be investigated and the findings shared soon.

"What I can ask the family is to be patient with us so that the matter can be carried out," Mwaura stated.

Cases of young Kenyans being abducted and some even losing their lives have been on the rise with some cases being swept under the rug. In some of these incidences, the victims are involved in unknown businesses and live extravagant lives.

A well-known incident was the disappearance and brutal murder of Frank Obegi and three of his close friends.

The bodies of the deceased were found mutilated in Kijabe Forest in June 2022 leaving many in shock as to what led to their untimely death.

Investigations into the murder are still ongoing but police have yet to make the details public.
