Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers, in partnership with other security agencies, have recovered materials used to make improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Garissa.
Reports indicated that the multi-agency team ambushed a group of individuals allied to the Al Shabaab militia at Alango in Garissa.
The agencies successfully recovered the materials used to make IEDs as well as an AK47 riffle, 2 magazines, porches, and assorted foodstuffs.
The three suspects, however, escaped the officers' dragnet, and a manhunt for their search was mounted. The three sustained injuries during the ambush.
According to reports, the operation took place on Sunday morning.
"Security agencies are appealing to Garissa residents to report any suspected terrorists for action to make the country safe and secure," read a statement from the officers involved.
This comes just weeks after another police ambush led to the arrest of four Al Shabaab terrorists near the border of Somalia in Garissa.
The operation was carried out in Fafi area where the four individuals were arrested. Five others were killed during a shootout that ensued.
The officers also recovered two machine guns, six AK47 rifles, and a number of improvised explosive devices making materials.
"The four are being interrogated and are cooperating well with the police," read a police report.
The police further indicated that the suspects were arrested in a temporary camp where they were staying at shortly after crossing into Kenya from Somalia.
Earlier, the police had also foiled a planned attack in Lamu. The militia had reportedly planned to set up their base in Mangai. The attack led to the destruction of a cell and the death of several militants.
