Learning was on Tuesday, April 2, paralysed at Jonathan Gloag Academy after parents staged demonstrations inside the school premises.

The parents could be seen holding placards as they demanded the immediate resignation of the school's Chief Executive Officer(CEO) on claims of irregular creation of the post.

The school CEO was also accused of interfering with the role of the head teacher, noting that the creation of the CEO post rendered the post of school head teacher ceremonial.

While demonstrating outside the school staff offices, the angry parents demanded access the the CEO's office lest they break into his office.

According to the parents, they had paid the school fees for their parents and thus noted that it was significant for their demands to be heard and action taken.

Police officers who were on high alert quickly arrived at the scene and attempted to calm down the parents who were gathered in front of the school offices.

Efforts by the police officers to quell the ranging parents hit a wall as they overwhelmed the officers who were forced to call the school management and address the protesting parents.

In a similar incident on January 8, parents from Tinet Primary School in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County stormed the institution, calling for the sacking of the principal over poor performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

While protesting, the parents locked up the school principal's office stating that they were not going to allow their children to report back to that school unless the headteacher was fired.

According to the parents, they had raised the matter to the County Education offices but they were yet to receive feedback, thus forcing them to demonstrate.

“Despite attempts to reach Sub-County Director of Education David Kipsaat and Headteacher Judy Sang, all calls went unanswered,” a parent complained.

The angry parents further accused the school administration of secretly selling maize, cows and milk belonging to the school.
