DP Gachagua Jets Out to Rwanda as Ruto Continues With West African Tour

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, April 6, landed in Kigali, Rwanda to attend the 30th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide.

The DP was accompanied by a contingent of politicians, Diaspora Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu and two university student leaders. 

Among the Members of Parliament who travelled alongside the deputy president include Owen Mbaya (Kilifi North), Edward Muriu (Gatanga), Veronicah Maina (Nominated Senator), and Patrick Munene (Igamba Ngombe).

The others include Julius Rutto (Kesses), Parashina Samuel (Kajiado South), John Kaguchia (Mukurwe-ini), Benjamin Langat (Ainamoi), Agnes Pareiyo (Narok North) and former Starehe legislator Charles Njagua Jaguar.

The Deputy President, who will be representing President William Ruto is set to join other Heads of State at the genocide commemoration dubbed 'Kwibuka 30' with the event scheduled to kick off on Sunday,  April 7.

Sunday, April 7, will mark the start of week-long activities commemorating the Genocide that claimed over one million lives in 1994.

Gachagua will also meet and engage with Kenyans living and working in Rwanda for dinner at the Serena Hotel in Kigali.

The discussions will focus on improving the diaspora experience, and investment across various sectors of the country’s economy.

Gachagua’s trip to Rwanda comes three days after President William Ruto jetted to Ghana where he signed several key trade-related Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs).

Among the agreements signed include one touching on Investment promotion and trade facilitation between the two countries.

President William Ruto later, on April 4, travelled to Guinea Bissau where he had bilateral talks with President Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embalo, aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations.

Among the key areas, the two heads of state agreed on include the strengthening of the private sector, to enhance the sector's participation in agricultural development, manufacturing and technology.
