Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has appointed Tabitha Nyandiek as a member of the Council of the University of Kabianga.

In a gazette notice, Machogu appointed the former Homa Bay Woman Representative to serve for three years effective from April 5, 2024.

Nyandiek who lost her seat in 2022 to Joyce Atieno Bensouda was appointed to the council alongside Peter Gathirwa and Edna Nyaboke Kangwana.

In other appointments to different government universities, Machogu appointed Dr Angelica Obaga as a member of the Council of the Multimedia University also for a period of three years.

The CS also appointed Crispus Kiamba as the Chairperson of the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) Council for three years effective from April 5.

He also appointed Fancy Kemei and John Nyakawa Ondari as members of the council for three years as well.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 of the Universities Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints  Ben M. Momanyi to be a member of the Council of Kirinyaga University, for a period of three years with effect from April 5, 2024," read part of the notice.

Away from public universities, CS Machogu appointed Laurence Okelo and Vincent Moseti Nyabiosi as members of the Commission for University Education (CUE) also for three years.

These appointments are in line with improving the performance of public universities to world-class status. In May 2023, he appointed 62 other individuals to fill different positions in public universities.

In March 2023, Machogu made similar appointments by overhauling the Meru University Council.

Notably, the council has several roles including ensuring proper accountability and management of its finances, property and investments.

Additionally, the council is also responsible for overseeing the operations and activities of the institution on behalf of the government.

It is also tasked with ensuring that there are adequate structures in place for the efficient and effective management of the institution. The council's roles and members are outlined in the Universities Act.
