The United States Embassy in Nairobi has issued a warning of a possible terrorist attack on the Aden Adde International Airport in Somalia.

This is a key facility in the East Africa region as it houses the African Union Mission in Somalia which has Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops.

According to the US embassy, it is likely that the terrorists could also bomb other key facilities in the East African Community (EAC) country.

“All movements of U.S. Embassy personnel have been cancelled for Tuesday, April 9, 2024,” the embassy was quoted as saying.

“The U.S. Department of State level-four travel advisory (“do not travel”) for Somalia remains in effect due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, health issues, kidnapping, and piracy.”

It was not immediately revealed the faces behind the possible terrorist attacks.

Despite that, there were concerns that the Al Shabaab terror group was behind the planned attacks.

Somalia is home to tens of thousands of Kenyans who work in corporate, aid, service and hospitality sectors.

Additionally, Kenya plays host to hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees who have fled the country due to the threat of Al Shabaab.

The Al Shabaab terrorist group has conducted multiple terror attacks on the Kenyan soil.

This latest warning of an imminent attack was made at a time when the Federal Government of Somalia has asked for the withdrawal of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

Kenya in October 2023, committed to withdrawing KDF soldiers serving under ATMIS by the end of 2024.
