Two people on Wednesday succumbed on the spot after a trailer ferrying logs of timber fell on them along the Kerugoya- Karatina road.
According to witnesses, the trailer allegedly lost control before hitting a nearby tree where the two were standing.
Responders quickly rushed to the scene of the incident with the hope of saving the duo who were stuck in the wreckage, only to find them dead.
In the videos that went viral, residents could be seen crowded at the scene of the tragedy as the responders continued to help the victims.
Police officers arrived at the scene on time and cordoned the area before kicking off their investigations.
Meanwhile, the driver of the lorry sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The root cause of the accident is yet to be established.
Following the completion of the rescue process, the truck was towed away for further assessment.
The incident came barely hours after several people died following an accident that occurred in the Kibirigwi area of Kirinyaga County.
The accident which involved three vehicles, two personal cars and a trailer left several nursing injuries. The accident occurred after the three vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.
Witnesses attributed the accident to the road in Kibirigwi. According to them, the road is usually slippery, especially during the rainy season.
Later on, police officers and emergency service providers arrived at the scene to conduct assessments and offer medical assistance to those who had been injured.
However, details of the exact number of casualties were not revealed despite fears that the number of people who lost their lives could be more than two.
