AG Githu Muigai Moves to Rescue Ruto from ICC

The government has written a letter to the International Criminal Court (ICC) seeking to be enjoined in Deputy President William Ruto's case as a friend of the court..

In the letter written by Attorney General Githu Muigai, the government requested to be allowed to make submissions in the appeal by Ruto's defense against the use of recanted evidence.

Muigai said on Thursday that the Kenyan government was interested to submit observations with regards to the ammended ICC Rule 68 that now allows the use of recanted evidences to make final judgments on cases.

The AG explained that the move was to ensure that both Ruto and radio journalist Joshua Sang went through fair trials.

Last month the Judges allowed the prosecution to use testimonies of five witnesses who had retracted their statements.

However, Ruto and Sang have since appealed the decision.

The move by the Attoney General comes after selected MPs affiliated to DP Ruto expressed concerns that the government was not doing enough lobbying, to unhook Ruto from ICC since President Kenyatta's case was dropped.
