Anne Waiguru Issues One-Hour Ultimatum to Jubilee Over Delays in Kirinyaga Nominations

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary and Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant Anne Waiguru has issued a one-hour ultimatum to the Jubilee Party officials over delayed voting in the county.

Speaking in Kirinyaga, Ms Waiguru stated that they are giving the Jubilee Party one hour to take voting papers for the gubernatorial and Member of Parliament (MP) nominations to the county or they will not vote.

“We demand that the headquarters deliver enough ballot papers right now. Let them use the helicopters.

"They need to come quickly. We don't care whether ballot papers are black and white or coloured,” said Waiguru.

Waiguru lamented that the pertinent issues that they raised last week on Friday had not been addressed and the party had delivered fewer papers than the number of registered voters in the polling stations.

The former CS on Friday flanked by dozens of supporters dramatically stormed a polling center in Gichugu, Kirinyaga, alleging that there was a plot to rig her out of nominations.

Waiguru, who is vying for the gubernatorial seat, had claimed that ballot papers for the governorship position had been given out to her competitors at night thus the exercise would not be transparent.

In the ensuing confrontation, ballot materials in the station were destroyed.

Meanwhile, tension has risen in the county after the aspirants stormed a polling station in Mwea accusing each other of trying to rig the votes.

The incumbent Mwea MP Peter Gitau alleged that goons had been hired by his opponents to disrupt the exercise in Kirinyaga.

A move vehemently denied by his opponents who ordered the party to rectify the situation before it escalates further.
