Armed Bandits Shoot at Vehicle Carrying KCSE Exams

A dramatic incident was witnessed in Elgeyo Marakwet County after armed bandits opened fire at a police vehicle that was ferrying KCSE exam material to schools.

Reports indicate that the police vehicle, which had some officials on board, was attacked at Chesetan area in Kerio Valley.

The incident caused panic in Loiwat, Ngóron and Kolowa Secondary schools which were waiting for exam papers.

Confirming the incident, Tiaty sub-county deputy county commissioner Daniel Kurui said the attackers thought the police vehicle was trailing them, hence, opened fire.

The Commissioner, however, assured that the exams were delivered intact and no one was injured.

"The KSCE papers were never affected likewise to those on board. As Government, we are committed to ensuring the raiders are flushed out and dealt with.

I appeal to our neighbours not to retaliate and allow our security officers to carry out security operation along the valley,'' said the commissioner adding that police had beefed up security in the area.

Baringo county director of education Indiatsi Mabale divulged that despite the delay the examination went on safely.

The incident came a few days after two gunmen stormed Abaqkorey High School in Wajir County where KCSE candidates were sitting for the History paper.

Confirming the incident, Habaswein police boss Caleb Wesa stated that no student was injured and that they had launched a manhunt for the two men.
