Arrest Alfred Mutua or We Will Do it, EACC Told

Machakos County leaders are demanding the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to arrest Governor Alfred Mutua in seven days or they would lead residents to apprehend him.

Machakos Town MCA Cornelius Kitheka, on Tuesday stated that the Machakos Governor ought to be nabbed following his connection to irregular procurement of vehicles in the county.

Speaking in the company of members of the business community, youth leader Henry Kioko and residents, Kitheka indicated that EACC should enforce the law as Mutua's injunction had already been dismissed by the court in December 2015.

“He should be arrested immediately or we will lead a citizen’s arrest against him,” Kitheka was quoted by the Star.

The leaders further questioned why the authorities were reluctant to arrest Mutua, citing that police provided security during his recent Maendeleo Chap Chap meeting held on Saturday.

Mutua has been on the spot over alleged illegal purchase of Subaru Outback vehicles for Executive committee members, and a Toyota Landcruiser for the Machakos County Governor

During a television interview on Tuesday, the Governor reiterated that the arrest was illegal, noting that as an Executive member he was not responsible for procurement.
