Aspirants in Alfred Mutua's Mandeleo Chap Chap Party Protest Failure to Conduct Nominations

Machakos Governor and Maendeleo Chap Chap movement leader Alfred Mutua is on the spot after his party failed to conduct nominations and instead announced that winners in respective positions would be determined through pollsters.

The aspirants are now up in arms accusing the party leadership of cheating by asking them to pay Sh15,000 for the nominations, an exercise which did not take place.

One of the aspirants David Gitonga who is vying for the Kapsoya Ward Representative seat indicated that it was unfair for the party to ask for money yet the nominations were not conducted.

"We were told to pay a nomination fee of Sh15,000 after paying the money it is not becoming a nomination fee but an opinion fee because we expected a nomination process to be conducted and not an opinion poll that we are being subjected to by the party.

"We are not looking for a popularity contest but looking of an individual who has the ability to win in August," he lamented.

The Aspirants further banished the methodology that research firm Infotrak was using to gauge who was the best among them, indicating that the pollster was using phone calls to gauge the popularity of aspirants which was not a true representation of what was on the ground.

Raphael Kinyua, another aspirant, noted that Infotrak had used calls and did not go to the ground which did not make sense at all and further indicated it would be hard to trust the data from the pollster.

"This pollster did not go to the ground to collect data they just used a phone call to gather information instead of engaging the electorate and ask them this questions hence we question the credible of their opinion," he emphasised.

The results were expected to come out on Monday and the aspirants demanded to know their fate before the window for IEBC to register independent candidates closes.
