Audit Report on Fake Degrees Commissioned by Fred Matiang'i set to be Released on Thursday

Anxiety has gripped Kenyans with questionable degrees after it emerged that an audit commissioned by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is set to be released on Thursday.

Matiang’i directed the Commission for University Education (CUE) to do an audit on degrees awarded by Universities after it emerged that learning institutions were issuing certificates to undeserving students.

CUE chief executive David Some has invited all vice-chancellors and principals of university colleges to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) on Thursday as they release the report that was conducted between January 23 and February 10.

“The purpose of this letter is to invite you to the release of results of the quality audit inspection on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

"The findings will form policy advisory to the government on quality assurance and integrity of university education in accordance with the law," part of the letter dated February 10, 2017, read.

This now means that students who were admitted to universities without minimum entry requirements could have their degrees withdrawn.

Students who also graduated from universities without studying all the necessary units required for the programme might be recalled to take up enhanced content to enrich their degrees.

Matiang’i had also threatened to close down universities that were issuing degrees without meeting the set standard by CUE.
