Baringo County Woman Representative Grace Kiptui Refutes Claims She Attempted Suicide

Baringo County Woman Representative Grace Kiptui has refuted the widespread claims that she was rushed to hospital after supposedly attempting suicide.

In an official statement sent out on Thursday, Ms Kiptui dispelled the claims noting that she had gone to the hospital for a routine check-up.

"I am aware of the rumours and speculation doing round following my hospitalisation.

"In view of the above, I would, therefore, wish to state that on Monday, January the 23rd 2017, I turned up at the Nairobi Hospital for my routine check-up and my doctor, upon examining me advised  that I should take a bed rest due to fatigue," the legislator wrote on her Facebook page.

She added: "Since then, I have greatly improved and currently in high spirits and in a vibrant state of health and that I would be discharged anytime".

The Woman Representative accused her political rivals of propagating the suicide claims which had caused a buzz on social media.

"The information circulated by some people in the social media and blogs is false and meant to create anxiety in the public, by some few individuals apparently out to malign my name for their selfish political reasons.

"We should desist from posting damaging information on the health of individuals whenever you know you totally lack facts," the MP stated.

On Thursday, a source close to the legislator confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that she was in hospital but declined to delve into the circumstances of her hospitalisation.

The initial reports indicated that Ms Kiptui had ingested poison.
