Blow to CORD as these MPs Vow to Quit

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy CORD is facing tougher times ahead of the 2017 General election, as the list of MPs vowing to quit the coalition grows longer.

MPs Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache), Kinoti Gatobu (Buuri), Stephen Kariuki (Mathare) and Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), all of ODM, made the pronouncements on Saturday while addressing a public gathering in Nanyuki. The event was held for the homecoming ceremony of the newly appointed Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri.

Mpuri Aburi said he had supported Raila Odinga for so long and that it was time for him to support the ruling Jubilee Coalition come 2017 as he believes the President's coalition will win without a hitch.

On the other hand, Mathare MP vowed that he will be the youth ambassador for the party after being impressed by Jubilee.

“I’ll be the one to urge people to join Jubilee Party and there’s no way I can be doing so and be left behind,” he remarked at the event as quoted by Nation.

Other Legislators who have since fallen out with the Opposition include Gideon Mung'aro (Kilifi North), Mustafa Iddi (Kilifi South).

The CORD coalition has been struggling with disloyalty among its lawmakers an issue that saw some members de-whipped from the parliamentary committees as disciplinary action.

Last Tuesday, the coalition removed the name of Lunga Lunga Member of Parliament Khatib Mwashetani from the House Business Committee (HBC).
