Boda-Boda Rider to Die for Chopping Lover to Pieces

A 40-year-old boda boda operator has been sentenced to death for brutally killing his lover and dismembering her limbs.

Amos Gachie Mwangi, was found guilty of hitting Esther Waceke Maina, with a blunt object on the head killing her instantly.

A Thika court heard that the accused later beheaded Ms Maina and cut off her arms, palms and legs. He threw the chopped body parts in a paper bag before tossing it in a pit latrine at his compound.

Mwangi then put the torso in a separate sack and threw it in River Theta. Days later, the Area Chief retrieved the body from the river after being alerted by women who were fetching water.

The incident which occurred in May 2012 in Kiambu County, left residents in shock as police launched a search for the head and other body parts.

Police finalised their search when Mr Mwangi's neighbours reported a stench emanating from his compound. They demolished the pit latrine and retrieved the head and the palms that had already decomposed.

The body of the deceased, which was taken to the Thika Hospital Mortuary, was identified by her former husband Joseph Wambugu, whom she had left owing to marriage disagreements.

Lady Justice Roselyn Korir condemned the murder and termed it as “heinous, cruel and most foul”.

“The man deserves no mercy and should therefore suffer death for his cruel act,” said the Judge.
