The Office of the President has announced the transfer of Bomet County Commissioner Benard Lebarmarai days after he had an ugly altercation with area Governor Isaac Ruto.
Lebaramarai was ordered to report to Nyeri where he will take office in the same capacity.
The County commissioner had been having a tense working relationship with Governor Ruto.
The bad blood between the two became apparent two weeks ago when the governor was injured during a chaotic football match that turned into a political rally.
The governor later claimed that he had been attacked by a police officer who lobbed a teargas cannister directed at his face.
He later alleged that the police officer had been working on orders from the office of the Deputy President.
Ruto’s claims drew a sharp rejoinder from the county commissioner who accused the governor of fabricating the story, saying it is not possible to have sustained such a "minor" injury by a canister shot from a riot gun.
Since then, local leaders and residents have been calling on Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery to transfer Lebarmarai.
