Boniface Mwangi Leaves PAWA254

Vocal human rights activist Boniface Mwangi on Friday announced that he will be leaving his community organisation PAWA254 which he established 6 years ago.

Mr Mwangi stated that he will stop being the team leader at PAWA254 as of January 2017.

"I am currently serving my notice at PAWA254, January will be my last month as team leader at PAWA254," Mwangi said.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the photojournalist noted that this had been influenced by the fact that he will be running for the Starehe Parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2017 polls.

He added that: "My last public event as PAWA’s team leader will be at the culmination of this year’s work at the PAWA Festival."

At the age of 27 years, Mwangi formed PAWA254, a hub and space for artists and activists to work together towards social change and advancing human rights in Kenyan society.

"PAWA uses art for civic engagement through writing, dance, poetry, graffiti, theatre, music, film and photography. We spark civic participation by drawing attention on emerging social concerns in the country. We advocate for good governance and a corrupt free Kenya," Mwangi highlighted.

PAWA has been very close to Mwangi's heart and he has used the platform to bring an awakening to the young in Kenya. Through it, various demonstrations against injustices in the country have been organised.

This comes days after the activist expressed his interest in politics during the unveiling of his new book 'UnBounded'.

"I am counting on your love, votes and financial support to become the next Starehe MP. Together we can do it. I will vie as an independent candidate or join a party that I can identify with. For the record Jubilee or CORD doesn’t speak for me, I won’t and I will NEVER join them,” Mwangi affirmed.
