British Ex-CEO Shoots Nairobi Woman Dead

A British national was on Saturday arrested in Nairobi's Karen estate on suspicion of killing a Kenyan woman inside his house.

Richard Alden, who is a former Wananchi Group CEO, was apprehended at Karen hospital where he had taken the deceased after police officers sensed some inconsistencies in his version of the story.

The suspect claimed that Grace Wangechi, the victim, had shot herself in a suicide attempt but preliminary investigations showed that the bullet had passed through the back of her head and she had several injuries that suggested murder as confirmed by Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome.

“They were the only people in the house and when scenes of crime officers went there they also found a blood stained towel in the dressing room where the murder took place. It is murder and he is in custody for that,” stated Koome.

After the arrest, officers went to his house where they discovered that Alden was a licensed gun holder and recovered a spent cartridge. They later confiscated his pistol and 34 rounds of ammunition.

According to guards at the house, the two had been spending much time together and were alarmed when they saw the suspect dragging Wangechi to his car.

“The guards say the two have been jogging in the area together and they ran an agency for athletes. We are yet to establish what triggered the commotion and subsequent shooting,” affirmed the police boss.

Mr Koome assured that Alden would be arraigned in court to face murder charges as investigations continued.

“He has been arrested and will face murder charges once investigations are complete,” he added.
