Businessman Commits Suicide After Ex-Lover Torture

A Nairobi businessman threw himself in a well in Kabete, Kiambu County, after allegedly receiving death threats, from his ex-girlfriend, that had mentally tortured him.

Daniel Kabucho, 47, ended his life on Saturday when his ex-girlfriend attempted to extort more money from him despite having previously paid her Sh700,000.

The man had began selling household items and cows to pay the 'ransom' when he decided to inform his father Peter Kinoro.

According to Kikuyu police boss Birgen Kiptoo, the man had taken a loan of an undisclosed amount from his former lover in Mombasa, a step that marked the beginning of his problems.

When Mr Kabucho, who had a plumbing business at Afya Centre in Nairobi, reported the matter to the Kikuyu Police Station, Mr Kiptoo advised him to ignore the calls from his former suitor because the threats came from someone Kabucho knew.

Family members of the deceased urged the police to speed up investigations to find out the receiver of the Sh700,000. His father surrendered to the police all the phone numbers that used to call his son often.

“The family has the right to know who these people are,” said a resident in the area.

Mr Kabucho was a father of two children aged 20 and 16.
