Police in Kitui West are searching for a priest accused of hiring thugs, who viciously attacked his lover leaving her and their 3-year-old child nursing serious injuries at Muthale Mission hospital.
23-year-old Veronica Mutua, claimed that she was attacked by her boyfriend, who is a Catholic priest when she had gone to visit him.
“He phoned me while I was in Thika and asked to see me together with my daughter (name withheld) but he was nowhere to be found, when I arrived at a Kitui Catholic Diocese Parish church, where he ministers," she said.
Speaking to the media, Ms Mutua said the 'man of God' later informed her to go to his home, only to find his mother who threw her out and prohibited neighbours from helping her.
“His mother gave out Sh500 for my bus fare and threatened her neighbour that she would suffer dire consequences if she allowed us to spend the night there,” said the woman, on her hospital bed.
It was then that she was attacked on her way to the Kabati Shopping centre to board a taxi. The injured woman noted that her boyfriend's mother who had escorted them, escaped the scene leaving her to be beaten to a pulp.
A boda boda operator rescued the two, took them to Muthale Mission Hospital and reported the matter to the police.
Ms Mutua stated that the woes between her and the Priest began when she was in form one, in 2012, when she got pregnant with the priest's child while he was serving in Kitui County.
The priest is said to have rejected her completely after she gave birth to a blind child despite promising to take care of the minor.
A DNA report, according to Nairobi News, showed that the child was indeed the Priest's despite his denial.
Kabati OCPD Juma Londo, on Thursday affirmed that investigations would be launched into the matter as soon as Ms Mutua filled a P3 form.
