Cholera Outbreak Kills 3 At Shimo la Tewa Prison

Reports have indicated a cholera outbreak that has claimed several lives in Shimo la Tewa prison, in Mombasa.

An initial report by Citizen News said that two inmates had succumbed to cholera like symptoms, one on Monday and the other on Tuesday.

Three others were said to have been admitted to Coast General Hospital with the same symptoms.

A more recent tweet by Nation Breaking News indicated a rise in the number of remandees from Shimo la Tewa admitted in hospital with cholera symptoms to six.

The latest tweet by Nation FM reported that another remandee had succumbed, totaling the number of deaths to three.

This is the latest in a series of reported cases of cholera outbreaks across Kenya.

Last week, six cholera related deaths and 326 new infection cases were reported.

Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia however sought to reassure Kenyans that the Government is working towards stopping the spread of the disease.

So far, several county governments have sought to put in place, measures aimed at combating the disease.
