Government Cracks Down on Illegal Slaughterhouses to Contain Cholera

Nairobi county government has embarked on a raid on poultry slaughterhouses in the city and its environs in an effort to contain the spread of Cholera.

So far, the disease has claimed 4 lives in Nairobi and had 37 people admitted at Mbagathi Hospital.

Thursday, officers from the county’s veterinary department arrested two individuals for operating an illegal slaughterhouse near Burma market.

The have called on meat traders to ensure they get their meat from approved slaughter houses as they meet required hygiene standards and are run by professionals.

Governor Evans Kidero had earlier declared a ban on food hawking following the outbreak.
