CID Officer Shoots Himself Dead After Row with Girlfriend

Residents of Nyayo Estate in Kayole retiring home on Monday evening witnessed an incident they are not likely to forget- that of an armed officer having gone rogue.

The 29-year-old administration officer attached to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) shot himself dead after efforts to shoot his girlfriend’s children failed, in what appears to be a love triangle gone horribly wrong.

According to The Standard, the officer had asked for permission from work claiming he was going to visit a sick friend.

He did not return his gun to the armory.

In the evening, he went to a bar in the area and was drinking in the company of another lady when his girlfriend walked in on them and threatened to leave him.

The angry officer in turn threatened to kill both his girlfriend and her two children whom she had gotten with her estranged husband.

He walked to the lady's home to make good his threat and started firing to scare the security guards at the gate away so he could gain entry into the estate.

Fortunately, the girlfriend had called her house help and asked her to lock herself and the two children in.

When the house help defied the officer's orders to open the door, he started firing indiscriminately.

Fortunately, nobody was injured.

Police officers from Embakassi arrived at the scene, responding to raised alarm.

The man turned his Taurus gun on himself ending his life.

He left behind a suicide note explaining that he was ready to die as he loved his girlfriend but she took him for granted.

The body was taken to the mortuary as the deceased's phone, wallet and firearm remain in police custody to assist in ongoing investigations on the incident.
