Citizen TV Poaches Top KTN Journalists

Citizen TV has reportedly launched a raid on the Standard Group, poaching three of its prolific journalists.

According to our sources, news reporter Mercy Kandie, political reporter Sam Ogina and business editor Michael Karanja have all shifted from Kenya Television Network (KTN) to Citizen TV.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Ms Kandie, neither confirmed nor denied the claims but only asked her supporters to keep watching the screens.

“I cannot give any comment about the reports. You just have to keep watching the screens,” Ms Kandie stated.

Ms Kandie has graced the screens for the past few years with her focus being feature stories mainly in North-Rift region.

The three are presumed to have moved to Citizen TV to replace veteran news anchor Julie Gichuru who left towards the end of 2015, Sally Mbilu and Judy Kosgei who left early this year.

This adds to a long list of journalists who have left the Group in the recent past. The media group recently lost radio anchor Antony Ndiema, Tina Korosso and comedian Zulekha from Radio Maisha, one of its radio stations.

In December, renowned investigative reporter John Alan Namu left KTN where he had worked for 10 years. According to Namu, he left the station since the editorial policies in Kenyan mainstream media were not conducive for the critical investigative pieces he was focusing on.
