Company Director, Teachers Arrested Over Terrorism

A company director was arrested and taken to court on Wednesday for allegedly funding an Al Shabaab terror cell in Isiolo County.

Abdisalam Hafif Shueb is a director at a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) which reportedly financed terrorists responsible for several attacks in Mandera.

The company is also accused of facilitating terror operatives in and out of the country, while conducting recruitment exercises to nab the youth.

The court heard that financial records revealed that the NGO had been receiving finances from persons linked to the Al Shabaab militia group.

In  another instance, two primary school teachers were arrested on Monday after police officers got a tip off regarding the suspects' activities at a school in Isiolo.

Speaking to the media, Isiolo County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) David Cheruiyot said Mr Abdi Abdulahi Yusuf and Mr Hassan Wario Sora, were using their positions to radicalise young people in the region, and were notorious for terrorism recruitment exercises.

The suspects were detained at the Isiolo Anti-Terrorism Police Unit for 10 days as they awaited further investigations.

This comes days after Al Shabaab forged a deadly attack on Kenyan troops in El Adde Somalia, reportedly killing more than 60 soldiers.
