Confusion in Homabay After 800 Live Bullets and Bombs Were Discovered

Panic has gripped a stronghold of ODM leader Raila Odinga after residents reported a number of incidents involving discovery of dangerous weapons.

The latest discovery involved a metallic box that was found in Homabay's Litare village, containing 806 live bullets.

The unusual box was gotten from the lake by some four fishermen who had gone looking for fish.

Alarmed by the weight of their catch, they pulled out their net only to find a heavy metal box on their net which they reported to the local police.

Omena is usually light but we were surprised because the net was extraordinarily heavy,” said Litare Beach Management Unit chairman Wilson Nyajwaya.

Mbita OCPD Wilson Nanga said the 7.6mm bullets are usable, adding that they are mostly used in long-range rifles, “We have tested and discovered that the bullets are live”.

“They were in an iron container and we examined each of them and we could not read any of the markings. For now, we are trying to find out what may have happened around that area in the past because it is the third time we have found such a cache,” Nyanza region police coordinator Willy Lugusa.

The incident came a few weeks after residents discovered six live bombs from the same area.
