CORD Beats Jubilee in Voter registration

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has received a higher boost in the first week of the ongoing voter registration exercise compared to rival coalition, Jubilee.

In information released on Thursday by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the top four Counties with the highest number of new voters are Opposition strongholds.

According to the report, Siaya County has so far registered 15,689 voters, Migori (9,039), Homa Bay (10,404) while Kisumu managed to get 12,631 new voters in just one week after the registration exercise kicked off.

Jubilee regions in the top ten included: Kirinyaga County which registered 4,592 voters, Kiambu with 13,637 new electorates while Nakuru and Nyandarua managed to get  11,934 and 5,020 new voters respectively.

IEBC reported that Nairobi topped in the voters registration after booking 23,183 new voters.

Kajiado on the other hand was the only county that was able to beat the first week's target. Its performance rate stood at 188 percent after registering 5,375 out of the 4,523 target set for week one.

The Commission, however, announced that it had so far registered 251,894 which was way below their 1,037,893 target for the first week.
